Keep you and your customers safe

As businesses begin to re-open, it's important that you and your employer take action to keep everyone safe.

The government has published advice on how to do this. The advice includes a section on physical security and guarding. You can read the advice here.

Detaining people safely during the COVID-19 pandemic

The government requires your employer to carry out local risk assessments. These assessments must consider:

  • The challenges of the current situation.
  • Whether you need personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • The policies you should follow when dealing with customers.
  • Any further training you need.

We understand that you may have to deal with violent or abusive situations. When you do, please remember your conflict management and physical intervention training. You should use physical intervention only as a last resort.

We encourage you to report any such incidents to your managers, and if necessary, the police. Your employer may also need to report incidents to the Health and Safety Executive.
